QUEST EXPERIENCE: Finished 15th in 1993.

RACING HISTORY: Ran the last five Iditarods. Finished 18th in 1998. Top finish was eighth place in 1997. Finished 17th in 1994 and was named Rookie of the Year.

RACE OUTLOOK: Brooks' own bloodlines come from two mushing greats, his mother, Roxy Wright-Champaine, and his grandfather, Gareth Wright. His kennel lines are among the finest in Alaska and include Wright's Aurora Kennels as well as Siebold's and Erhart's.

Brooks has nine veterans lined up for the race and four dogs that are 2- to 3- years old. But the Fairbanks-born musher hasn't raced this season. He's got three or four main leaders and another three or four that may get tested. Brooks has stated that his goals are "to win both the Quest and the Iditarod."
