Here's a shot of the Unalakleet Post Office from the side. The blowing snow can drift upt 8 or 9 feet against the sides of buildings, very similar to sand dunes crawling across a road. |
The area immediately around Unalakleet is realatively flat..there are some larger hills but they are several miles away. Behind the dog shelter, local kids take advantage of a short bank to do some sledding. |

For the kids of Unalakleet this is like having the Super Bowl come to town. Despite my objections that I wasn't a musher, many kids insisted on getting my autograph - Title, Ramy's Cousin :-) |

This is a little out of the subject area, but you find all kinds of cool things spread out across Alaska. The little round object just off the wingtip is a White Alice site near Takotna. |
Shaped like a giant golf ball, White Alice was an advanced Early Warning System built by the military to warn the U.S. in advance of a missile attack. Takotna is only four or five hundred miles away from the former Soviet Union. |
